September at 12:00 /// The team here in the One Hit Wonder website
division are a little concerned that aside from the keywords one,
hit, wonder, down, and under, the next most popular
search string typed into google that directs people to this site
is "how to take someone down with one
hit?"
The riders tricks will be up later this week. Don't touch
that dial.

September at 18:30 /// We've sobered up enough to post
an update... Congrats to the winners of the Red
Bull Charging Bull Award; Thredbo skier
Johnny Lipzker made the strongest impression
amongst his peers by jumping with one of the most unique
styles seen in this country before stepping it up a level
with consistently big double back flips. Jindabyne local
snowboarder Andy Lloyd was deserving
in sharing in the $1000 Red Bull award by charging so
hard over every day of the competition, he had to be physically
pulled off the Charles Beckinsale built jump long after
the event had packed up.

September at 14:30 /// If you're in Thredbo Village tonight...
AFTER PARTY at the Schuss Bar. All the riders have put their votes
in to decide who gets the Red Bull Charging Bull award
and $1000 cash for, well, charging the hardest over the last 3
days. The next video's to go up will be each riders trick that
they put forward as the one they want YOU to vote for, and hopefully
share in $4000 from Sinner/Dynastar/Rome... Stay tuned.

September at 23:59 /// We had to physically pull the riders
off the jump an hour after we were meant to be packed up. Then
skier Johnny Lipzker told us what was what at the end of the
third day. This is just a tickle of what went down (and up and
around and around)...
16
September at 23:58 /// Jordan summed it up best with "dub-nasty."
Click here to check out some more of Timothy Lloyd's pics
from the day. Thredbo turned it on once again with perfect
weather, a perfect jump and a couple of hungry athletes.
It was like the flood gates opened and a torrent of style
came spewing out as riders played one-up til late in the
afternoon. What other comp allows that kind of behaviour?
15
September at 23:59 /// Once again we had nothing but sunshine
when we caught up with skiers Jordan Houghton and Charlie Timmins
half way through the second day...
15
September at 23:58 /// There was little doubt that the skiers
dominated the One Hit on the second sunny day of the event. Johnny
Lipzker put down his protein shake momentarily to make daffy's
fashionable again. The rest of the boys played their own game
by throwing everything from sloooooow switch 5's to double flips
and everything grabbed in between. LOOK AT SOME PHOTOS
(sorry for yelling).
14
September at 23:59 /// Snowboarders Andrew Roth and Chris de
Campo talk about the first day of the event in Thredbo Village.
Enjoy this little sneak peek of Monday's action...
14
September at 23:58 /// Who wants to see a photo from day
one? Click here.
The remaining field of skiers join us on day two along
with Andy Lloyd, who is replacing Mitch Allan.
13
September at 08:30 /// The production team is just about to
leave Sydney with a truck load of big lenses bound for Thredbo
Village. Filming commences tomorrow at 10am and we aim to wrap
it all up, injury free, on Thursday the 17th.
On
Thursday night at the Schuss Bar in Thredbo village,
the athletes and crew will be gracefully sipping fine wine and
sampling caviar. We invite YOU to join us!
As a bonus, Jordan Houghton may also be signing headshots of
himself for you to keep but we are yet to confirm this with
his agent.
12
September at 10:50 /// Thredbo's resident professional
snowboarder and park designer/builder, Charles
Beckinsale sent me this sneak peak of the jump
that will test the One Hit Wonder riders.
Unfortunately,
Charles seperated his shoulder whilst doing some testing
of his own. Hope you have a speedy recovery buddy.
Work
will start towards the end of this weekend cutting the
gap out and cleaning up around the table top.
10
September at 15:45 /// Youngsters Chris de Campo and
Andrew Roth round out the snowboarding field
for the One Hit Wonder in Thredbo.
02
September at 08:43 /// Auditions are now closed. There
is still a little judging to be be done but so far out
of all the serious contenders, Snowy Mountains local skier
Jordan Houghton and Slovenian import
Bine Zalohar will go up against the likes
of Boen Ferguson, Johnny Lipzker
& Charlie Timmins for the chance
to pocket some cash. Billabong and K2 rider Robbie
Walker has been added to the snowboarding line-up
next to Ryan Tiene and Mitch
Allan.

August at 11:29 /// Thredbo's resident professional snowboarder
and park designer/builder, Charles
Beckinsale tells us what he has in mind for the One Hit
Wonder Down Under:
"The
jump we plan on building for the competition will
be 80ft from take-off to landing, true table top style
(take off and knuckle at the same height) with a massive
steep landing around 200ft long at a 35 degree pitch.
The take off will be a freestanding cheese wedge about
15ft high to allow a long drawn out take off transition
to the end pitch of the take off which will be at
30 degrees. This jump was designed to allow the riders
enough time in the air to complete progressive tricks
like double cork's and so on while having a landing
of very little impact to make things forgiving if
you don't land perfectly.
The snow conditions up the top are looking great for
the jump build, there are snow drifts as deep as 20ft
on the face above the jump site. We will start pushing
the snow down for the jump on Sunday the 23rd of August
for three to four days using two winch cats to strip
out the drifts and pile up a landing hill and deck.
While doing this we will layer up the surrounding
area so we wont have any spring melt issues till well
after the competition. Once the landing has been winched
we will get the park bully snow cat in for two days
to build the take-off and cut the sides and back of
the landing. Then we are finished and good to go!"
19
August at 13:40 /// Thredbo has injected some
sweet cash into the rider's prize purse. There
is $1000 up for grabs at the end of filming... The riders
themselves will vote for who they think charged the hardest
during the week for the cameras. Kind of like an encouragement
award, except over an 80ft jump.
13
August at 08:12 /// Some strong audition vids are starting to
make their way online. The best ones will be posted here.
12
August at 20:19 /// We have just been studying the varying demographics
of you facebook fans via the "insight" tool, and I'm
pleased to announce that 1 of you is in Afghanistan and 3 of
you speak Pirate English. Arrrh.

1200BC /// The One Hit Wonder Down Under is a four
day filming session on Thredbo's end of season money-booter
from the 14th until the 18th of September,
though which ever skier and snowboarder gets the most public
votes
for the single best crowd pleasing trick will score a $2000
cash sweetener. It is a relatively new but relaxed concept of
competition for the Australian skiing and snowboarding scene...
Think JOSS,
but with gumtrees.
The
invited athletes will work with skier/cameramen Tim Myers, Martin
Bourke & Sean Balmer on Thredbo’s end of season money-booter
to capture their single best trick on film. The tricks will
be uploaded to the web for three weeks where the world wide
public can vote for who they think has the best “One Hit
Wonderous” trick, and thus walking away with some extra
cash, but more importantly claiming the title of the best skier
or boarder in the universe, maybe.
As
well as the invited athletes, there are 2 skiing and
2 snowboarding wildcard spots available. To qualify
oneself for these spots and compete with Australia’s best
skiers and snowboarders on the purpose built money-booter, you
need to audition.
